i put a new clutch in my CJ5 and i cant figure out which holes to use on stock skid plate and stabilizer pate and mount. i cant find a pic anywhere of how it is supposed to look. please help. i cant get everything to line up right.
There are bolt holes on the underside of the frame for the skid plate to bolt to the frame. With a T-150 the skid plate bolts on starting with the front hole on both the frame and the skid plate leaving an unused hole at the back behind the plate. The back hole is for the T-18 option. If you line up the skid plate in this way the holes for the Transmission mount and torque stud should become evident. I use 4 longer bolts to get the plate started and centered properly then snug it up. The torque stud should be on the drivers side.
Thanks for the reply. I have the skid plate mounted properly but i have three holes on the bottom of my Transmission , four holes in the plate the torque stud mounts to, and seven holes in the skid plate, oh yeah and three holes on the new tranny mount. I can't for my life figure out the right combination. Any help would be great I use my jeep to guide hunts and my season is about to start.
Your jeep must be a lot cleaner than mine cause when I pull bolts out I can tell exactly where they go back by the lack of dirt, and the rings the bolts left in it
My engine was a little crooked and the torque bolt mounting plate was about a 16th of an inch from driveshaft yoke. So I am sure it was set up wrong by previous owner.
If anyone out there has a picture of a proper setup that would be all I need. I can't find a picture anywhere, and my book chilton's doesn't show or say anything.
This is a picture I have of a 1978 CJ5 - T-150 set up. The bolt heads are to the tranny mount and the torque stud (not installed) would go through one of the holes on the right side of the picture. All of the extra holes in the skid plate came with the jeep when I bought it. The T-150 was the stock Transmission .
