T150 Rattle in 3rd

I have a rattle noise coming from my T-150 's 3rd gear when I let off the gas and the momentum of the jeep catches up to the tranny/engine speed. I've tried to duplicate the rattle in the other two gears and it's only 3rd. So it's not a U-joint or throw out bearing.
It sounds like a tuning fork getting pinged around. So..... Maybe a shift fork?

Transmission shops offer free estimates. They should be able to give you a few ideas on what it is and how much they will charge to fix it. T150s aren't that hard to take apart, you could try to do it your self with new parts from Crown Auto, but if it doesn't work you're out double the cash on parts. I'd use this as an opportunity to swap out to a better Transmission .

When i first bouth my jeep, the T-15 was making a grinding / rattling sound only in 3rd gear (final 1:1). Turned out it was the front input bearing in the tranny.

I also had vibration from the drive line being angled incorrectly.

It would only do it during certain conditions and rpm's.

I'd check those two things out for sure.

Easiest way to check input shaft bearing is to remove the tranny cover from the jeep floor, and the cover / shift tower. Then drain off enough fluid to see and inspect the bearing. Mine was obvious as one of the large balls had popped out.

My truck was doing the same thing... Turn out to be the Transfer Case ... It was the shifter that was a bit shifted in 4wd... Try engaging and disengaging 4wd... You never know...

Thanx everyone here for the quick response. I'll try all of the suggestions here. Maybe I'll GET to rebuild the tranny. I'll post what I find in a couple of days off coming up soon.

What a long time. Sorry. Family crisis averted.
Good news is, Transfer Case !! The t/c shifter was being held up by my after market Husrt shifter boot. Bad boy I am. I said I'm trying to go all original, and now I'm one more piece closer with the original boot(s).
