My T-5 is newly rebuilt, I’m using Pennzoil synchromesh oil. The issue is I have some chatter noise which I’ve always had. Can I assume this is normal? BTW I have no carpet to dampen noise.

Carpet ! You don't need no stinking carpet. No carpet lets the heat in, during the winter. Does the same in summer :( My T-4 is quite with 238,000 miles. Something is going on with yours

T-5 is a gearbox so a little whirr would be normal but chatter not so much.

Did you do the last rebuild or did you send it out. How long ago?

You said it has always had a chatter....
How long have you owned it and how many km on it prior to rebuild with the chatter (approx)?

Are you certain the chatter is comming from the T-5 and not your Dana 300 ? Or maybe a u-joint ?

When you re-mounted the T-5 did the noise get better or worse?

Did you use the old throw out bearing or replace with a new one?

Did you do the clutch at the same time?

Was the flywheel bushing replaced?

Trailing thought....
If you end up pulling it, and plan on taking it offroad much, do consider an AX15 swap.
I finally got sick of my T-5 .
Smashed itself under normal conditions at low speed.
The AX15 swap makes the Jeep drivable in any condition. Highway to trail.

I had thought about that in the past. Is it an easy swap/direct bolt up?

I’m running 33s with 410 gears.

Wouldn't say easy.
You need the right AX15 with the external slave. Get the bell housing and cover and shifter as one. ALSO GRAB THE MOUNT.
An adapter between the AX15 and Tcase. Novak.
Hydro clutch kit (may as well your right there anyway).
You will need to hear and bend your Tcase shifter or get new one(s) if your split sticked.
Front driveshaft needs to be lengthened.
Rear driveshaft needs to be shorter.
About 3".
Skid plate mods to handle the AX15.

A good weekend or two.

Oh, and you will end up creating a cavity between the AX15 and Dana 300 with the clocking ring.

You will want a Y type seal in the Dana 300 if your running different fluids in your AX15 and Dana 300 .

Consider first if you are going to want to clock up your Dana 300 for clearance. It will move your Tcase stick(s) over toward the driver. You will need to heat, bend, and possibly extend them.

I didn't want to cut through the tub so I ended up making new sticks.

Tall enough so I don't need to lean over to shift. Bent so they aren't in the dash. Set them up so I can palm both in one hand making it easier to shift on the go. Oh, and used a large coffee mug to make sure I could still use the cup holders!

You will likely have to knock off one of the ears off the Dana 300 where the shifter mounts for clearance.
