1984 Cj-7, rebuilt 258i, Carb-Motorcraft 2150, TFI ignition, T-176, Dana 300, dana 30 in front, Rear Dana 44, 4in lift, 33in tires, 4:10 gears
I need help to figure out what is it I'd need to make this swap. The owner has a T-176 and a Dana 300 but i think they are parted. He said they were behind a v8.

He asked if i want the bell housing and Transfer Case adapter? If it was behind a v8 if he's right would i need those items?

He also said he can't find the shifters, that they were packed during the move and are probably in storage. He said for the tranny it would cost $82 and the Transfer Case it would cost $70.
Havent been rebuilt either. So i'm thinking they have been sitting around in his garage for a while, and might have never used them.

Last thing he said was make him an offer: I'm thinking $400-$500 not sure what is reasonable.

I too think this is a good combination as you can see in my profile:D.

Not knowing a thing about the parts, and them already missing parts themselves; I would go over there with $300 cash in my front pocket with another $100 or so in the truck or wallet in smaller bills. Have at least one five and five ones, make him think its all you have and you really want to buy.

That works for most folks if they see you have cash and are willing to part with all of it to get what they are selling. Plays to the sympathetic side of folks!

I think I might have just given up the secret to negotiation...:chug:

Forgot to add: Get it all! Everything he has that he thinks might go with it!

If it doesn't work for you, sell or trade for what else you might need.:chug:

So I offered the guy $500 and he said for that price he would keep it for parts, I said what's the least and said $1000 0_o

I offered $800 he said he would do that, without the bell housing :/
Wonder if I could just keep mine, oh and he said it was behind a straight 6 too

You need the bell housing. The one from your T-5 will not work.

Don't get the T-176 without the t case adapter!!!!

The adapter's are difficult to find as a separate piece.

And you will need new drive shafts. One needs to be shorter, one needs to be longer. Can't remember which is which right now.

That's really high to me. There's someone on here with a T-176 for sale for $250 in the classifieds. I consider $250-350 for a complete ready to go T-176 a good deal, and about the same for a Dana 300 . Since his are missing $AMC 150 -200 worth of parts I wouldn't go over about $500 for the pair, like you offered.

These aren't especially rare. Just sit and wait for a better deal. I got both of my T177's for $200 each, and got my extra Dana 300 for $200 as well.

Since you already have a Dana 300 just offer him about $300 for the T-176 and hold at that. That's high to me with no shifter, but if it's local you won't have to fool with shipping.

You need T-176 , bellhousing, and T-176 to Dana 300 adapter. You don't need another Dana 300 unless you just want one for parts or a spare, and if that's the case, find a cheap(er) one.

I agree. Thats alot of coin to throw at missing pieces and parts you think will need rebuilt. I sold a perfectly good T-176 with the bell and the Transfer Case adapter ( that should come with no matter what ) for $350.

:agree: thats to much you can find them cheaper I wouldn't give more than $600 for everything

i only paid $500 for my whole CJ running and driving:D
