What do you think a good used T-5 would be selling for on average? I was thinking around $200. I have a person that wants to buy my extra T-5 .

I'm not far from you and I advertized and sold a good condition T-5 with bell last summer for $100. Doesn't mean you can't sell yours for $200. I've also sold a few FSJ T-18 for $200. Of course each time I sell a Jeep part I spend an hour or two talking Jeeps in general with the buyer.

I just emailed the guy and said $250 and he jumped on it. Go figure. I wanted to leave some negotiation room since I like to barter. I am a $2-300 range person when it comes to smaller transmissions.

Must of been a ford guy :D

sounds like you got a good deal on that if he is giving you 250 for it.

the T-5 can be sold nicely to guys with fox body stangs.

Years ago, I sold mine for $400. I was really having a hard time with it grinding when trying to shift into a gear. I think it was due to the excessive axle gear clearances on the old style Detroit Locker.

I would think the AMC bolt pattern and the 4x4 rear output would make CJ t5s in compatible replacement for the stang t5s.

not sure, the bolt pattern can be adapted and alot of T-5 's are getting beefed up to handle more hp since everyone likes the way they shift.

Wrong T-5 rufus. The world class T-5 is in the mustangs and they are a completely different animal. Most if all parts are not interchangeable.

I still am running a T-5 , and had my original go bad on me after 250,000 miles. I found out a couple of things.
1. They are expensive to rebuild. The rebuild kits themselves cost over $200 and that's assuming most of the internal parts are still in decent shape (gears and shafts).
2. These things are getting hard to find. I spent over a month trying to find a good used replacement which I paid $250 for.
3. Hot rod guys like the Jeep T-5 because it is so short, they modify it somehow for their setups. But if you look on forums like H.A.M.B. they are poaching Jeep T-5 's.

I also have a mustang T-5 setup in a Capri race care and am pretty sure their isn't too much crossover in terms of parts with the Jeep T-5 .
Price wise I think anywhere from 200 -500 depending on condition. I kept my bad unit to rebuild in the future since they are getting so hard to come by.

The guy came and bought. He is installing it in a ford model A behind a flathead V8. That is just uber cool. I am glad it will be used in a cool project like his.

I'll join the hi-jack for a bit....

Good article about the T-5 : T5 History in Ford Mustangs with specifications for World class and non-World class T5's Modern Driveline

IMHO: Most Jeep CJ T-5 's met their demise due to owner's installing larger tires without changing axle gearing. The internals on the NWC (non world class) T-5 have a different design than the WC T-5 . Stock 29 inch tires (235R75/15's) didn't seem to put the strain on the guts as when owners went up to 33's or (gasp) 35's. Gotta remember that stock gear in the latter 80's was 'commonly' 2.73. AMC Jeep also spec'd using ATF inside them (I owned a 77 Dodge B100 with a 4spd OD that also used ATF), no doubt another measure to squeeze whatever fractional MPG they could out of the vehicle in an attempt to me CAFE standards of the day. They later put out a bulletin prescribing regular gear lube, IIRC. In any case: Add some more horsepower to the mix, because... Well just because. Toss in some 'aggressive' driving, and it became a matter of when they would grenade, not if.

There is/was a company, that was doing modifications to the Jeep version of the T-5 , and beefing the external/internals parts. Jeep T5 5 Speed Transmission Page They have since discontinued them.

Probably the best upgrade for the T-5 in an Overdrive 5spd for a moderately powered vehicle, would be either the NV35xx or AX15. I know someone that is running a Ford 331 stroker in front of the AX15 and he hasn't reported any issues. Of course there is always the NV4500 for the big money, big horsepower crowd.
