Where is the temperature sending unit in a 1979 Jeep CJ5 w/AMC 304 ? I thought the sending unit was in the thermostat housing, but it is not there. There is a threaded connection with a plug in it. Is that where it is supposed to go?
 
The temp. sender on my 401 ( has the same intake as the AMC 304 ) was on the driver side directly behind the distributor. I have installed a thermostat housing that is threaded for the temp. sender and relocated mine.
 
Thanks! I see it now. Now hopefully this is the problem....uneasy not knowing the temp of my engine
