Test speedometer out of jeep?

Any way to test the speedometer outside of the jeep? I have an original speedometer (I think) with the temp, fuel, 4 wheel drive light, turn signals, etc, built in, I have pulled it out during my rebuild, but don't have any idea if it is functional. Only drove the jeep once after I got it, was at night and the dash lights didn't work.

You can twist the stub on the rear of it with your fingers, the needle should jump up. If it does so easily, it's good.
