'80 CJ7, Just a rolling frame right now... will have Mopar 360, Torqueflite 727, D20, full size D44, Chrysler 9.25 with 4 wheel discs. SOA on Rubicon Express 1.5" YJ springs.
Designing the perfect tire has eluded tire makers for decades, because no one tire can truly do everything well. I want an all terrain tire because like most people, most of the miles I drive are on paved roads, and I need good snow traction as well. However, I also want a mud terrain, because slick mud is one of the quickest ways to get stuck, and here in the Midwest, there never seems to be a shortage of mud around.

My idea is simple, combine the two. I took my inspiration off the BF Goodrich line using the KO2 tread in the center, and the KM2 tread blocks on the outer edges. Don't see why they never offer a tire like this.

Ditto on the Goodyear Duratrac .New set on Renegade II and second set on TJ .

The perfect tire for me on my '7', has been a 33", BFG A/T.
Has long tread life, quite on the hi-way and grips like glue.

I have been a fan of these since I put them on my 86 XJ. Have them on my CJ8 now with almost 60k miles on them. Love how they do in the snow too. I did have some slipping one off road. But it is a compromise since I daily drive it on a lot of pavement. I was looking at the M/Ts but will probably go with the A/T K02s when I need to replace these.

The M/T is loud on the road, and sucs as a 'rain' tire.
Tread life is no way close to the A/T either.
I tried a set of M/T's and sold them off inside of 6 mos. Went back to A/T.

Overall I would agree that the BFG all terrain is great tire and quieter.I have worn out a few sets of them and the mud/terrain with zero problems.
The '69 CJ5 has new 33"mud terrain BFG's. So not that partial toward Goodyear but so far so good.

I have heard great things about the Duratrac's traction, but bad things about their weak sidewalls. Big BFG fan, just can't decide between the MT and the AT. Leaning towards the KM2 because my CJ5 is not a daily driver. I have no problems living with a mud terrain for on pavement driving, because they works so well once you get to the trail. It's only snow traction I worry about. I've also ran Toyo Open Country MTs before with great traction and long life, even under a 9,000 lb Ford Super Duty.

I use to live in the mountains of Colorado at 7000 ft. I put MT Baja Claws on my Cherokee that I used as an emergency vehicle. 90 mph on the highway no problem, 3 ft. of snow no problem, mountain roads and rocks, also no problem. I guess you could say I really liked them.

PB-Those look to be 'directional', is that correct?
Don't know if they are still made or not.

Here's a video of my highway action. Speed after passing the first car coming from a road to the right was 80 mph. Handled the curves well too.

Motor Vehicle accident on I25 with a roll over and injuries. About 7 am.

Here's what the Jeep looked like with all the lights on.

Did you see the fox cross the road? About 15 seconds from the beginning. He run down the right side of the road and then crosses in front of me. :D

YES-I sure did.
We had to dodge peacocks and skunks.

If your CJ isn't your daily driver and you plan to use it off road then buy Mud Terrains! M/T's are slightly louder and they might not have the 50,000 mile tread life but they typically are better off road.

IMO a CJ is not something that I would drive if I was concerned about road noise. The CJ is also a very light weight vehicle and the tires will probably dry rot before the tread wears out. I currently run Super Swamper TSL's and love them but they are LOUD. Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Bias Ply's like to talk as well.

I wondered why I have so many miles on these tires. Even though it is an 8, it is still light.
