Threw a rod now what?

I'd put another AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in and not bat an eye. You can either buy a used one and rebuild it yourself and know what you have or go the Jasper route and still know what you have, then add on from there if you so choose.

Shame you lost yours, but I personally wouldn't want to do anything extravagant.

If my AMC 304 dies, I'll do another AMC 304 or 360 for the same reasons.

was driving my 79 CJ5 right after a Transmission rebuild and slung a rod out the side of the block. I have a T-150 Transmission and am hoping to be able to replace the motor without having to buy any adapter kits. any idea what my options are?

Your options depend on your wallet! A used AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . A rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . A stroker. V8 in any flavor. Stay with AMC and no adapters are needed for the Transmission ., but the T-150 won't take a lot of HP. The V8 means new exhaust, mounts, and accessory brackets.

Sounds like it's time to swap in a 4.0 and enjoy fuel injection.:chug:

just be aware that the crank position sensor on the fly wheel could be a small problem when mating up to a T-150 . I think that's the biggest reason more guys don't use the Jeep MPI rather than the chevy TBI. Do your homework and tell us all what you find.:D

I think it all depends on how you use the rig. How tall is it? What size tires? What kind of wheeling do you do? If the stock 6 was fine on power then you will save thousands by just replacing it. If more power is desired, how about a mild build of a stock motor?

Either way, an EFI swap is always something to seriously consider. Either on your stock motor or by swapping in something else. There are some interesting swaps out there....

My jeep is really justa glorified 4 wheeler. just want to be able to go from one place to another on the farm and occasionally to the store. any suggestions where i can find another AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ?
