Timing?

Today I had replaced a bad alternator in my 85 Jeep CJ7 4 cyl.

I fired it up, and drove it down the road. The jeep started to hesitate on acceleration, as if it were running out of gas (it wasn't). Finally it stalled and will not start.

Could I have thrown off my timing when replacing my alternator? I didn't do anything with the belt but take it off, on again when replacing the alternator.

Just for kicks, I took out one of the plugs to check for spark. I grounded it to the engine block, and turned it over, but didn't see any spark.

Any thoughts on this?

Installing an alternator won’t affect your timing.

Do you have 12.6v at the battery?

Work backwards, check the king lead (center) from the distributor cap. Have somebody spin the engine over while you watch for spark between the lead and the block.

If no spark then check the ignition key to coil.

Turns out the MCU unit is bonkers, possible dead. All the other components check out fine..

I assume dead MCU is very uncommon.

I can't imagine that the new alternator could kill the MCU. Perhaps it is just coincidence.
