Tire, lift options

I'm in the process of building a 85 CJ7 Laredo ...

It now has a Chevy 305, 3 speed auto Transmission .

Came to me with brand new stock size tires, 235/75R/ 15

Stinks that they are new, but they have to go. They look so tiny!
I'm not going to Moab, not planning on rock crawling but more or less looking
for daily driver type ride with a trail ride every now and then.

What do you guys think would be a good tire/lift combo? I might not even
lift it, as my wife is short and she complains about the Jeep enough as it is

2 and a half lift and 31 in tires is what your after. you could go 4 inch and 31's. if you dont like the tire size you can move up to 33's with out lifting it any higher

For a daily driver the CJ's look great with 31's and minimal lift. I think you would be very happy with that combo. The 31's fit the wheel wells nicely.

If you're not doing too much wheelin, you can fit 31's without a lift at all i'm pretty sure. Uncles CJ here has 31's with no lift... and we do some good wheelin...





Stay away from shackle lifts, they like to wander.

Body lifts are "ok" though not my cup of tea personally.

This nice weather here is killing me, the CJ is not quite road ready.

Need some brake lights wired up and finish wiring the dash. I cant wait to get out and wave at some Jeep people.

If your planning on running 33"s under it in the future I would go with a 4" lift. That is the setup I run. It is more then enough lift for 33" just make sure of your backspacing on the rims, so you don't run into rubbing issues on the front wheels when turning. I think 3.5 to 4.5 was what is recomended. I have 4" on my rims. Its a shame the tires you have are new, but you may be able to sell them on Ebay,craiglist, to get some money to spend toward your lift and new tires. Just a thought.

I have a 2.5 inch lift with 33's. I dont do any wheeling, just drive around town and occasional pleasure driving. No rubs or anything...

heres mine. 25." lift with 31" tires. i do muddin, driving around town, and small trails. theres no crazy trails around here.

that's my '82 with a 1.75ish shackle lift and 31's. I think it looks good, but my dad's looks mean with his 5-6 inch total lift and 33's, but it's not a daily driver...
