I have 30x10.5 bfgoodrich alterrains on my CJ7 and I want that wide stance on my Jeep.

Do you think 33x12.5 bf goodrich alterrains with 15x12.5 mickey thompson wheels will give me that wide tire look that I want?

How wide is wide? It does not mean the same thing to everyone. DSC04811.JPG

Wide tires won't give you a wide track. A 12.5 tire on a cj is just going to rub like hell when you turn, and will reduce your turning radius because of it. We all know my policy on spacers. (:D) So to get what you want, I only see one realistic way, and that is to swap axles out for a set of post 1982 units, to do the job correctly and safely.

That and the fact that 12.5" rims are going to cost you a TON of money, and really are too wide for 33x12.5 tires. Depending on who you speak to 15x10's are too wide for 33x12.5's.

I had a set of 33x12.5x15 BFG M/T's on Crager 15x10 steelies with the round holes on my XJ. Are you prepaired for the amount of weight that this combo is going to add to your ride? The HUGE change in gas milage? The massive amount of stress that they now add to your breaking system (especially if you do not have power brakes)?

You do NOT want 12.5" wide wheels with 12.5" tires thats way to wide for the tires. You should run 8-10 wheels.
The trouble is you have narrow trak axles in your jeep now. The only way to get the wide look is to get wide trak axles. Find someone who up graded to full widthaxles and buy their old wide trak axles cheap.:D

Look in my gallery I have wide trak axles with 33x12.5 tires on 10" wheels.

I agree 10" would be max for 12.5" tire and I personally like the wider look but if it gets to the point of airing down you can easily pop a bead. you can air down a pretty good amount with 8" rims I have had mine to 10 PSI with the 8" and have yet to pop one (knock on wood).

I see Mylittlecj5 has a set of wide trake axles for sale in the classfieds, good deal only $100. That would be hard to beat.

About 6"

I actually went the other way, and stripped out the wide axles for a narrow Dana 44 Scout axle rear and a Dana 30 with discs in front. The narrow trac fit my needs better, and I just like the look as well. I just welded in new spring perches on the 44, added larger brakes, and installed lockers on both ends.

Coldwater is right they are 5 or 6 inches wider, I don't know off the top of my head. I do know the WT axles are 54.5" in the rear and 56" in the front (wms to wms).
How wide you want depends on what you do with your jeep. If you go down narrow and twisty trails, you probaly like NT. If the trails are wider and off camber than WT is what you like.
In my case most of what we run is wider trails and off camber trails.
This winter I am going to a ford 8.8 rear and a J-truck 44 WT front, I'll be about 6" wider than I am now. About like the new jk's.
When you build a jeep you just build it to suit what you do, or what you like the look of.:D

Yup, When I put mine together, I knew my hard wheelin days were at an end because of having moved back to an unfriendy state. My wheeling was/is confined to sneaking around and trying to miss pine trees on abandoned logging roads and the like. When I was in NC, I built a rig with a wider track because of the terrain, which was lots of rocks and blow downs on hills. Now my Jeep is pretty much just a weekend toy, and I went with the old school looks of the narrow tight wheelbase. If I had any place to wheel here, I would need a rig more in line with what Old dog has, so I could keep it from being on top of me instead of under me!

OOPS I forgot to close this ad when the axles went away last week!:censored:
Sorry for the confusion...

You should look into the Izuzu Rodeo or Honda Passport rear. Its a Dana 44 and matches the Waggys width and Bolt pattern. Also Disc Brake and 4.09 4.30 Ratios from the factory

Yea I know but they are hard to find here and expencive. The fords are everywhere, I got one with 4;10s posi & good disc's for $AMC 150 . I can drill the rotors and axles for 5 on 5 1/2.

In Pa there as easy to find as the 8.8s
Im actually doing an 8.8 swap in a YJ but am keeping the 5on4.5 otherwise I would do the Rodeo 44

Did you pull it from an Explorer 5on4.5 or an F150/ETC as they are 5on5.5 from the factory?Still a good upgrade but just curious?
