I live about 40 miles NW of Nashville and I'm looking for a parts store that carries CJ parts. I've got most of the catalogs, as well as a frequent customer card from Auto Zone, but I would rather spend a little more to support a local or small business. Anything in south Kentucky or Middle TN would work for me. The big businesses offer a better variety and cheaper price, but I like to support businesses where I can talk to the owner if needed, as well as keeping the money with families instead of corporations. Thanks, Stephen
An admirable attitude, to be sure. I hope that all works out for you.
your best local suppliers are salvage yards, you will learn what parts from what cars can be used on your CJ and what parts of later model jeeps can be recycled.
For the most part the drive train parts that are expendable, u joints, tie rods, brake rotors and drums and of course shoes and pads will be at your local parts house. Napa even carries rebuild kits for power steering pumps and auto transmissions. I am sure that in Nashville there are several places to find Ring and pinion sets and locking differentials and maybe even syncro sets for your Transmission . Speeking of which , take a second and tell us what gear box you have in your profile. I am sure it will come up eventually.
There are good places to get body parts and not so good places. Unless you can find a CJ in a junk yard someplace these will be best found on line.
Part of the fun is scrounging parts and it always seems you fing jeep parts in the last place you look.
I give you one piece of advice, scrounge up a couple hundred bucks to hide some place safe, When your drinking beer with a friend and he tells you about how his neighbos wife just threw him out and she has a freshly rebuilt jeep T-18 with a Dana 300 TC on it and just to annoy him she wants to sell it for $50. You can see where this is going.
