THAT IS THE QUESTION;)
I have some body damage,a hole or 2 in the body of my jeep. Question is, do I make repairs to the body? Or just cover it with body armor?most of it would be covered with corner armor and sliders which I want anyways.

and this is it. i'm pretty sure with sliders i can cover all holes except for that crappily repaired one underneath the jeep emblem

I would at least sand some of that down and see how bad it is. I wouldn't bondo but you could probably cut out and weld some new metal in some of those spots.

You could also probably get away with covering the bottom section with sliders but you will know its there and in the long run it could be an issue. Sand and put some kind of rust proofing in there if you do. I don't know much about rust other than rustleom paint :D and I see something about por-something on some sites.

I would sand all the rust out to try and at least slow it down. DOn't ever put a band aid over soemthing like that.

I tried covering up my dings and bangs in those locations with diamond plate and angle iron, Rust is not so bad in SoCal. Now I have dings and bangs on the diamond plate and am on my third set of rockers.

Covering it only hides it! It doesn't really help in any way. You'll only prolong the inevitable and guarantee things will be worse when you do go to fix it. Been there done that.
And a word of advice: address the rust on the backside too, not just the showing side. There are several liquid helpers out there nowadays from etchers to primers to coatings.

The only way to fix is replace the tub sides, hiding it with diamond plate only delays it, beware once you start to fix it your jeep will be down til it's done

:)Everyone has given good advise but from what I see there may not be much suitable metal left to hold any sliders or weld any patches...........The only way you can find out is to do some surgery...........
:D:D:D:D

yeah if you look around both sides of my rear fender flares you see this cracked line that goes around it. a bad patch job???? damn. looks like i'll be cutting and welding alot this winter.

you can get replacement panels for all of those spots. i would definitely fix it before you cover it up. at the very least, cut the rust away and put a good rust inhibiting primer on it to prevent it from spreading. i did this to my rust spots about 2 1/2 years ago as a "short term fix" and i haven't noticed any spreading. if you plan on putting body armor on anyhow, i wouldnt buy the replacement panels. those are all flat spots, just get you some flat sheet metal and cut/weld your own pieces.

Well since your not opposed to cutting and welding.... then yes by all means do so. I didn't want to scare you but these guys are right. Once you start exploring the damage, it will reveal more than is obvious. But not to fear the unknown, there are many build threads on various sites that make yours look like scratches. But it will put you down for some time.
You can practically build a Jeep body with the available body replacement parts out there. For quality parts check out classic enterprises Classic Enterprises - Restoration, Reproduction Parts for Studebaker, Jeep & Ford or for cheaper more cost effective pieces check out Qtec. and 4WDInc or Morris 4x4.
I've got an 82 CJ7 body sitting upside down on my garage floor right now that's getting a lot of new metal. If I can do it (with very little welding experience) then just about anyone can!

i have more trouble with a place to do it rather than time. if i had my own garage then the jeep would be taken down to the frame for a proper repair. i have a friend how has a shop i can use for short periods of time so we'll have to see how things go.

Looking at my CJ there not much on it I couldn’t fab from scratch …. But im use to fixing stuff that’s 70 years old. so the jeep looks super basic to me.
Obviously you cant see it all w paint on.
Strip off the paint one spot at a time and butt weld in new metal….primer and move to the next spot.
