My daughter totaled her car so my CJ7 has just become my main mode of transportation. Since I've had it I've only used a bikini top. We have had a bunch of rain & now winter is coming so I am looking at options of hard doors, full soft doors, and a hard top. My dilemma is there is no post or bracket for a door to close on to. My soft vinyl 1/2 doors have handles that swivel against the jeep body to stay shut. My 1980 CJ7 has nothing but 2 holes in the body where it seems a bolt type mechanism would be mounted. I've also seen where 1981-1986 jeeps had an triangular apparatus that mounted to the body to position a door latch for hard doors but my 1980 has a piece of trim that seems to prevent that apparatus from being mounted.
Could someone please post pictures of the mechanism a 1980 CJ7 's doors close on to? Could you please tell me any recommendations for installing a post locking device on said 1980 CJ7 ?
For installing a hard top, could you please take pictures of how the hard top mounts on the windshield? I know it bolts to the body along the sides & rear.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was able,to figure out the latch system finally after much image searching & googling. I need a little ramp door thingy & the right doors or fabricate a post mechanism for other doors. Thanks anyways guys!

I didn't find it when I searched this sight but I did find it when I googled my subject. Thank you very much for compiling that & posting it!

You're welcome.

I've seen a few hard tops and doors that place the door handle higher on the door so it can latch into the hard top.

Elwood's link is a good primmer for what you are looking for. Depending on where you are in Texas there are a couple of places to fid this equipment, CollinsBros Jeep ? Your '76 to Current Jeep Professionals and Craig's list for the Houston area, There is a dealer that always has extra doors and tops. He advertises on CL all the time. If your near the San Antonio area shoot me an email, I plan on converting my setup to a half top and will not need my hard top. Also you can find half tops at GR8TOPS
