Transfer case shift knob

Morning all (LG on the left coast especially since you ALWAYS reply!)

Purchased new shift knobs for my 81 CJ5 ...
Discovered that the Transmission one screwed on as advertised, but the screw on one for the Transfer Case (ordered per the year in the catalog) is actually a press on and a much larger shaft diameter.

Transfer Case swap by PO? Was a LOT of things done wrong underneath in the the Transmission /Transfer Case area (mounts were cobbled in wrong etc etc).

Ideas??

Can you post a picture, that doesn’t sound right, you might still have the insert from the old knob threaded on the shifter handle

PO at work.......
Need pics of the t'case, shift lever and the knob.
BTW-some shift knobs use threaded inserts too.
LG
