I've got an 85 CJ7 with a 5.2L, T-176 and T300. I recently developed a Transfer Case leak. It turned out that the Transfer Case has been sitting on the cross member and has worn a hole in the side cover on the case. I would think that the Transfer Case should have some clearance between itself and the cross member. I did replace the Transmission mount a couple of months ago as well as the engine mounts. I can't see where I can make any adjustment to get any clearance between the Transfer Case and the cross member. Is the cross member bent by chance? Any help here would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
M. Wagner

Really need to see some pictures of this.
Sure doesn't sound OEM--
Also need pics of the tranny mount.
BTW-you have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine.

Tough break, you might be able to have that case welded up BTW. I would have to guess that you have a serious motor/tranny mount issue. The clutch linkage geometry will suffer here also.

Had to redo my account. Wouldn't accept my password (wrote it down so I know it was right). Tried several times to get the system to resend my password info but never worked.

Your right it is a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l - fat thumbs. I will get underneath her by this weekend and get some pictures and take some measurements. Can one upload pictures to the forum?

Thanks,

mjgwagner,
Here is a parts diagram of what you should have. Like LG said we need pictures to see what is making you set so low.

I may not be able to respond after this post as this is the third time I've had to set up a new account as again my username/password won't work. I have tried to get the system to email me the information but no email ever shows up. I have an account at jeepforum that works.

What I did see on that diagrams you posted is that there's a stud that is bolted to the crossmember and has two bushings that are on either side of the metal bar that the Transmission mount is bolted to. It appears that it is bolted to the right of the Transmission mount (Transfer Case side). It looks like it would hold up the Transfer Case from the crossmember. This stud is not present on my Jeep. I can order the parts from Morris 4x4 so I think I'll do this and see if it solves the issue. Thanks for the diagrams Gargoylejeeper. If I can get logged back in I'll let you know how it works out (if I can come up with yet another email address).
