I have a 4 speed on my 1980 CJ5 but my tranny keeps locking up?
I was told that replacing the shifting forks would fix it? need y'all's Help asap!
and if you have the forks please let me know
By locking up you mean getting stuck in a gear? If so:
Ahhh, I had this issue on my old jeep: 81 6cyl, T-176 . The problem was the ball on the bottom end of the shifter was worn and we couldn't buy a new one (not made anymore or something???) We ended up building the ball back up with weld then grinding it to the right shape. Not a proper fix but it seemed to work. Getting a used part that is in better shape may be an easier fix.
I was explained all of this by the mechanic so I dont know any more details about it unfortunately. Good luck getting yours sorted out!
It's #34 labled 'Shift Lever'. It's also not really a ball but a round ball type end (see the red circle).

I would like to add that you really need to pull the cover and look at the parts. Without looking at them everything is just a guess and could easily lead to more down time.
