Hey guys, I'm almost ready to put my Transmission back onto my Jeep. Looking at my Transmission Torque Arm, I have this bracket on the end of it. It was obviously broken at some point in it's history before I got this CJ. My question is - what was it's purpose? When I Google the torque arm, I get lots of photos, but none of them have this bracket. I plan to grind it off, but just curious if anyone know what it was supposed to do?

Thanks,
Justin

Pretty sure that it reaches toward the driver side and braces the exhaust down pipe from the manifold. Not much of it left.

It is supposed to help counteract the effects of engine torque. It extends the Transmission attachment to the Transmission crossmember, or in certain CJ’s, the skidplate. The longer attachment has better leverage and will reduce shift lever wobble.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I don’t know what extra part is for.

Thanks guys - I guess I'll just hack it off and try to forget it was ever there!

I just put mine back together a couple weeks ago and it did not have that extra tab. Your's looks like someone welded something on there -possibly exhaust brace.

My exhaust pipe has a standoff bolted to it that rests on the skid plate.
