Apart from being 32 years old and never had a thing replaced on it, my T-176 runs great. The only problem i have is occasionally it doesn't seem to want to go into reverse. i can eventually get to shift but with a great deal of force and i'm assuming that probably isn't good. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

Double clutch it next time it does that.

I would suggest a new stick, the stem on that one gets worn after a while and won't line up with the shift rod notches quite right.

I suppose there is also the possibility that the detent ball or spring is damaged or maybe even just dirty.

Mine was doing the same thing when I bought it. I took the top off and found that the reverse gear was half worn away on the side where it meshes with 1st/2nd gear. A new Reverse gear and 1st/2nd gear solved the problem for me. The T-176 is not to bad to rebuild.:D
