Hey guys, new here. I was recently given a CJ7 that I dont know much about. I live in Albany, NY. Does any one know any shops in the North East or any one that can help with assembly? This is what I have
New TDK frame with axles instaled
Entire fiberglass body
Bags and bags of bolts
Boxes of parts, seems like everything I need to complete it is there
Most of the stuff is brand new
Need an engine

The rolling frame that needs everything installed it, fuel/brake lines, engine...
I dont think I will have the time or reference material to complete, any help is appreciated!

Once again I dont know much so please help!

Wow, did it come with a VIN number and title ?

so this is what I have learned so far about being a CJ jeep owner. I love the fact that my jeep has had an engine swap. I dont really like that I dont know much about what has been done, what's oem, what was added during the swap. So IMO, any of it you could find the time to do yourself. Is going to be that much more knowledge you have of what it does, why it's there, and so forth and so on. So now am I not only having to learn jeeps, I am having to learn Mercedes diesel engines too. Just my .02

The CJ does have a title. It’s an 86. That’s about all I know. I know it can be made street legal. The biggest issue I have right now is diving into this and trying to find the time to do it, I’m a roofer and we are slammed with work until about October-November. I don’t mind paying someone to do it, but I don’t know where to start looking.

Unless you REALLY trust the one doing the work you might as well throw in the towel now. Not only do you stand an excellent chance of getting screwed financially, the likelihood of completing it and having everything done right isn’t good.
Having said that... there isn’t much, if anything you can’t do yourself! Just go after one area at a time, ask as many questions that you need to, get answers & do it. It’s not rocket science! The biggest issue is confidence to dig in.
As for time, it doesn’t need to be finished overnight. A shop won’t likely focus on it either... just keep taking your money & shoving your Jeep further into the corner.
Again... do it yourself! You will actually enjoy it more when it’s done too.
I’m sure I’m not the only one here who will jump at the chance to help you out.

That makes sense.. I guess I'm just worried it will just sit around and I wont be able to do the CJ justice. I've restored plenty of old motorcycles, but thing this big. And this winter Ill be doing medical missions so this year will be a tough one. Is there a market for this stuff? The guy that gave it to me said to either finish it or sell it and give him a portion of the money.... And I wouldn't even know where to start selling it..... I'm so lost....

Thanks for the replys so far. I think I need more help getting my mind squared away about what to do....

I truly hope you don’t sell it. There is a market for it but you are far better off putting it together and enjoying it.
Is it really taking up valuable real estate? Do you really need it finished overnight?

Unfortunately yes, I have it in two separate shops which is Ok for the next 2 months or so. If I'm not constantly working on it the guy that owns the shops is going to want it moved. As i dwell on this more I'm leaning on possibly posting it. I had it posted on CL with some bites, but no follow through. So I don't think I'm doing it right.... The issue is not so much getting it complete, but actually working on it. I know how we can loose steam on these kinds of projects as life happens....

I’m slower than a Cuban parade with only one set of jumper cables so long term projects are nothing new to me. I always finish them though.
The sad part is that each time I build or rebuild something, somebody talks me out of it and I don’t get to enjoy it very long.
It’s been a couple weeks since I finished my most recent CJ5 and I’ve been in hiding ever since!

The more research I do the more I think somebody will enjoy this more than me, at least this point in my life. I don't want this to feel like s burden and start dreading it.... I've been there before... Is there nay place other than Ebay and CL to post this stuff? I'm terrible at selling stuff....

Right here... check the classified section. But Ebay will get the most views.

Ok, Thanks for the advice. I will talk with him and make a decision. You've been a great help!

I sure would hate to see you sell it off, take a look at Mdeluca’s build thread..... mikes mid year 1986 Jeep he had a shop put his together and they did a great job and did it pretty quick, just from what I saw on Mikes Jeep I would recommend that shop
