So I'm trying to put my Dana 300 back in my jeep and the shifter rails keep hitting ether the tub or the top of the Transmission , is it common practice to remove those for an easier install or am I just being an idiot and not lining it up right? Also if I do take it off, will there be room to get it all back on? beeb91bbf297c64c5d340fd2d2075e0b.webp

It should go right in. You should try to lower the rear of the engine a bit to give more clearance from the tub. You could also remove the cover on the hump if that gets in the way. If you lower the engine make sure the engine fan does not hit the shroud.

Yeah I think I'm not getting it rotated down enough. Trying to balance it and work my jack has made my arms jello so I'm just gonna mess with it another day.

Because of the right side 'drop', they a be a real PITA to get lined up. Some times I've drop the tranny down a bit just to get wiggle room. This is where a tranny jack becomes your best friend.:D

I just got it! I found if you jack the rear of the jeep up and put it on jack stands, I can pretty much sit up under it. Now I'm a smaller guy so that may not work for every one but did for me. 8376d87c96efb8589bc4f6605a748b50.webp

Thanks for the replies and tips!

Well done.

Thanks for the update, glad it worked. The first time I put one in, I set that 80 lb. sucker on my chest. Recently, I stuffed it in with a tranny jack.

.... and here I was going to recommend building some Rube Goldberg tool involving a purpose-crafted platform, fabricating some short screw jacks out of threaded metal, and supporting it with a nearly infinitely adjustable jig that you could use to position the Transfer Case w/o having to muscle it around too much.

Congrats!

Nah I just need to not have girly arms lol

The Cj should take care of that when I start driving it and it's lack of Power steering

SOmetimes they are good and sometimes little unorganized, but it is a junk yard after all... lol

I've made a few physical trips there...

They got a lot of goodies!

I noticed this morning, my 300 has a slight leak.. Again. Lol

No such thing! Slight only means there is a little oil being distributed by the wind as you drive to keep other parts well lubricated, and from squeaking. It's also a Jeep's way of marking it's territory! :poke::D
