1984 CJ-7, 4.2L inline six, T-5 Tranny, Dana 300 2 stick T-case, AMC 20 rear axle, limited slip diffs.
This is probably an easy one for most of you.

My CJs right turn signal won't shut off after I make a turn. I have to manually flick the lever back to neutral to shut off the signal. Left turn is fine.

Is this the Turn Signal Switch? What entails replacing it? I read on a random website that it's pretty complicated and should be left to a professional. Really? :confused:
 
you will have to pull the wheel and snake the new one down the column. Pulling the dash will give you a much better shot at the wiring connector. Its not too big a job. you can borrow most of the tools at the AZ. I think its covered pretty well in the service manual.:cool:

does it click or have any resistance?
heres a link of a break down its a tilt column what your looking for is in the is in the first half no need to go further (unless u want to go ahead and change the lock cylinder.....its right behind the turn signal Tilt Column Fix - Dale's Jeep Junk

Yeah, there's the normal resistance going both up and down. Just whatever is supposed to "snap" the lever back to neutral after you make your turn isn't doing its job. And yes it is a tilt column. I'll check out the link. Thanks! :chug:
 
self canceling turn signals, wow what a concept, when did Jeep start using them?

Yes, you need the turn signal switch that cerrajero has pictured. On it there are 2 circular springs that hit a cam on the steering wheel shaft. It is common for that spring to come out and get lost.

also theres a few others
 
in the pic the letter B is what busadave talking about. it can fall out and either drop down the column or wedge it self in the turn signal

other common things are when someone has been in the column and tighten the screw too far....and cracked the assembly or put in a bind
letters A, D, and E

A.. is where the "handle" is ....
D ..is the Hazard or flasher
E...is for attaching it to the cloumn

D&E are the most common and closest to the actual contacts .....area C

i have seen it ( C ) where it has seperated itself rom the assembley (both flat metal pieces)
the plastic is more flexiblethan the horn contact but can still be broken any where from the "handle" being forced or i have seen guys taclke the "extraction" with a #3 phillips and a BFH:eek:
