Hey All,

I'm having a bit of trouble finding a OEM turn signal switch for my '74 CJ. I can find them all day long for my '79, and there are plenty of options for the Willys type '41-'71, but I can't find a direct fit replacement for my model year. The one that is on the Jeep now looks like the old Willys kind since it still has the small steering column. Does anyone know if something like the following will work?

Turn Signal - Chrome Turn Signal Switch Kit <br>Fits 41-71 Jeep & Willys

Any help would be really appreciated.

Also, I have been having some major issues with the ignition system on my Jeep. I have replaced everything, and still seem to have a "fire" problem. I have replaced the ignition control module twice and a mechanic friend of mine thinks that that is still causing the problem since it's a cheap advance auto parts, well, part. Anyway, I've spent too much money trying to fix the stock style ignition and I have decided to upgrade it. After doing some research on here and elsewhere, I think that I have decided the best way to go is with the following.

Mallory 6855M Mallory Hyfire 6EZ/6EZL Digital CD Ignition Systems

Any pros or cons from personal experience that I should know about? Thanks in advance for any help you all can give!

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the quick response. Looking at the hyperlink that you posted, my '74 CJ5 has a similar switch to the one that says it fits the 59-67 CJ6 . The strange thing is that right above it, the one the is said to fit the 74-75 (which should be my Jeep) is the internal column mounted switch like my '79 CJ5 has (which will not fit my '74 since it has the small round column). This is very confusing because almost any parts place on the internet says that my Jeep ('74 CJ5 ) would use the internal column mounted one, but this clearly is the wrong part. It seems to me that '76 and on CJs are really easy to find OEM parts for, but for some reason there are not as many things made for '72-'75 CJs. At least that has been my experience anyway. I actually found this on ebay just a minute ago, it looks just like what is on my Jeep now.

WILLYS JEEP CJ5 SPARTAN TURN SIGNAL SWITCH:eBay Motors (item 160363375697 end time Sep-24-09 19:00:38 PDT)

I'm not sure that the plug is the same and all of that since it came off of an older willys jeep, but that is what the actual switch on my jeep's steering column looks like.

Anyway, I'm sure that I can make something aftermarket function properly, I was just curious if anyone here had run into this issue before and could perhaps point me in the right direction.

Thanks!
