under vehicle or under seat gas tank?

all right my '77 CJ5 didn't come with a gas tank. and i was wondering which is better/safer, the regular under vehicle tank, or the under the seat gas tank? i'm planning to take this thing off road a little bit. i'm not going to be rock crawling with it. and i will probably have my three year old with us in the cj most of the time. let me know your opinions.

Under the vehicle is the safest hands down

It is very uncommon for a gas tank to catch fire but if it does you don't want it under your butt.

The chance of gas fumes in the cab would be alot greater with it under the seat.

I still have the 67s tank under the seat but I want to change that, I can not see the safety of sitting on a explosive liquid

thanks for all the info guys. i think that it really made up my mind to go back with a stock under vehicle set up.
