I have another project that looks to be on the horizon for my '83.

The rear floor portion that sits under the rear seat looks thin. The front stationary bolts for the rear seat have almost fallen off.

I'm looking for ideas to build into this portion of the floor for storage.

I remember seeing older jeeps that had maybe a 4" deep storage box under the driver or passenger.

I plan on cutting this section of floor out and building a small storage compartment for tools and maybe valuables out of plain sight under the rear seat.

I would like it to be waterproof, so that's why I was wondering about the older jeeps storage boxes.

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.:chug:

:)On the early CJ5 's the passenger seat had a tool box under it.........I have one and love it.........on the drivers side was a fuel tank!

On yours under the rear seat and floor pan you have a fuel tank , so not sure you can do anything below the floor level........lots of guys build a short tool box and then mount a rear seat to the top. The seat folds forward on the lid and exposes the tool box.

:D:D:D:D

We'll between the rear diff and the "step" in the floor between the front and rear seats there's room.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

If you are any good at fabercation, I'd weld one in to help seal it from the underside. A nice flat door/lid with some weather striping should seal the top. Doesn't need to be deep, even 1 to 2" will give you quite a bit of room. Rod

Yep, there could be a 6"-8" deep storage compartment directly beneath the rear seat. On the passenger side there's plenty of room. On the drivers side however, your Limited by the muffler .

I'm not in need of anything more than a bunch of hand tools out of sight and out of mind.

I plan to had a seat riser for my rear seat and use it for a tool box.
