1979 cj7 258 with a t-150 3 speed, 31x 10.50's but soon to be 33's . Stock all the way around for the most part. UPDATE : Now have my Goodyear 33's on it and it looks great !
I am looking to put a Mt. Dew can as my shifter knob , I am looking to drill out the bottom and drain the original can an fill with an epoxy or something of that nature but I really don't know what kind of product would work the best. I want it to be very rigid as not to bend the can in any way. Does anyone have any suggestions or expertise on this?

Well you could either drill a hole in the bottom and fill it with some type of expanding foam and instert the appropriate nut to fit your shifter, or you could cut the bottom off and make a steel instert and glue it into place but i would make the instert large enough to go to the top of the can so that it wouldnt crush

Consider making a can shape from a billet of solid aluminum cylinder. Wrap the Mtn Dew can around and secure with small flathead machine screws where the can seam will show the least. It isn't much work to drill and tap a couple of screw holes in the aluminum. The solid alum shifter knob would give me a better feel of substance than a can actually filled with anything.

Why a mountain dew can ? I know it will be different
seen pool balls , golf balls , baseballs ,skulls ect but never a soda can interesting

I would think contractor-type foam would expand unevenly inside the can and make it bulge. You would need a more dense foam or liquid plastic. The billet idea sounds better. I'd probably cut the bottom off and slide the can over the form, leaving the bottom part exposed.

You might think about using round bar (2.5"?), slide the can over it with a little glue, and thread the open bottom to go on your shifter. Order Aluminum 6061 Round in Small Quantities at OnlineMetals.com

Do they make Mtn Dew in those shorty cans? That might be an alternative to a full size can.

That's what I was thinking....I think that would look cool :D

A replaceable can w/bottom cut out. Leave the top un-popped.

After awhile the can will wear and fade. Nice to be able to replace it when needed. Epoxy in the top. Slide in the plug. Use a torch to release it. Who knows, you might switch brands:eek:

2-1/2" x 4.5 aluminum weighs 2.17#

What about a tube with an aluminum plug tapped for the shift shaft. Find someone with a small lathe and go nuts.

When finished, please post a pic.

Hey thats true. Plus, when you switch brands it will make it easier :D

Wouldn't the ink wear off the can.I think the billet idea would be cool.Engrave the name and powder coat the colors.Course a shorty plastic bottle would look good too.HMM maybe I'll work on a Seagrams 7 shifter

No shortage of good idea for an unusul request.:rb:

I think a wooden plug would be the easiest to make. Cut a piece of wood on a lathe. Cut the bottom of the can off and slip it over the plug. It would be easy to attach the plug to the shifter with a thread insert or a center hole and a nut.

WOW is all I can say about all the good ideas that have come about! Thank you all! As far as why the Mt. Dew it is what I have drank for well over 15 years and will continue to do so as well as it being something unusual that not everyone has. I didn't think about the can fading so I am gonna have to agree on the billet idea as being the best but I def like the bottle opener idea on the bumper lol!

I too have drank Code Red for about 10-12 years. Recently the doc pulled me off it due to severe heartburn and etching of the throat lining. I sure do miss it!

another option cut out bottom of can fill with bondo place a female threaded insert in bondo before it drys than just screw it on shifter
