I seen this on on PetesCJ signature some time back and pretty much every vote every time I log in here. I don't know how it helps but I assume it's get CJ some recognition or hits on the site. I searched it to see how often this gets mentioned but didn't come up with much, could be me though.
The vote can be pretty close and it's cool to see the site go up in the rank or one vote change the position (like right now). It looks like below and is at the top of every page.
