Our Island is only 56 square miles and foolish people seem to set part of it on fire every year. 5,600 acres wont seem like much on the mainland, but it is a big chunk of landscape out here. The rumor so far is it was an idiot with a Chinese lantern balloon thing- real pretty till it crashes and lights the mountain on fire-MORONS.

With all the rain we've gotten the grass is getting tall.
When it drys out watch out.
The Yellowstone fires of '88 will look small.
Beetle killed pine trees sure wont help.

Ya it's out now- and I get to look out my window at a giant black scorched mountain. There were plants that grew nowhere else but the leeward slopes of west Maui-I know because we did native plant relocation before the windmills went up- beautiful sandalwood and ohia forests- gone. .

Same here in Arizona.5 started already from cig butts to people welding.About lost our home 2 years ago to a signal fire.Ex Forest Service set cause he was lost 2 miles from town.10,000 acres up in smoke.
