What Color did you choose?

What color did you choose to paint your Jeep? Did you stick to the original color as indicated on the VIN? Why did you choose a different color if indeed you choose something other than what is indicated on the VIN?

For my '79 CJ7 the original color is 9T or Ensign Blue. My plans were to keep it blue, but green is my favorite color.

My 76 was originally red. There were a few areas of paint amid all the rust:





At the time there was a sea of red CJ's, so I thought I'd paint it Yellow. Prowler Yellow to be exact. Then they started selling a lot of yellow jeeps. So I switch lanes again and decided to paint it Natural Green Pearl (stock Jeep color):









The color really pops in the sun. And as the sun disappears, the paint changes to a dark, dark, green.

When I do mine I will paint it the factory color and want to install the factory Renegade graphics.

Our "Flintstonemobile", (much of the floor is in worse shape, haveing some sort of Rhino coat on it is comprised of old road signs and rust holes, compliments of the PO) is John Deer matt black. The wife wants me to return it to the factory color. Time will tell.

At some previous time some parts of our CJ were painted red. The original color is Arrowhead Silver Metallic based on the Vin tag. Yes, time will tell.

This was my original color....cant even tell you what it's called other than "ugly"


Here's what I went with. For three reasons. First, I had some body work to do which required repainting. Second, it matched the interior pretty well, and third, it just looks dang cool

I also debated various Military Olive Drab colors, but with some gloss. Couldn't find one that pushed the right button.

I think the original color of my CJ was red, but the PO had it painted John Deere Green. I think he lived on a farm and that is what they had available.

I patched a few holes over the winter and needed to re-paint it. I almost went Olive Drab to match mud and dirt, but I was talked into keeping it JD Greene by some friends and relatives. I have to say it kind of grew on me too.

I used an grade meant for industrial equipment and mixed it thick by accident, which left a kind of "mottled" look. It kind of looks like bed liner, which is the look I actually wanted. A happy accident.

Green is my fav on any jeep! And my first choice!

But i think im going to keep my 86 red which i think is the factory color..
It still has the catalyst sticker on the door sill. it might of had a re-spray. but nothing in the cab.

I'll be painting my 79 Silver Anniversary CJ5 .......you guess it, silver. The original color Quick Silver. You won't find the 8C code in any factory manuals, only came on the SA.

I'll use majic tractor, truck, and implement paint on my trail rig, it's very durable, and cuts down on the pin stripping.

I had satin black Rustoleum high heat paint left over from when I painted my BBQ grill and it held up well in the Texas sun so I used that. Plus the original color was black.

Your guess is as good as mine. The whole "assembly" is welded together. Looks like a PO shaped a piece of heavy, thick steel C-channel in and out to fit the frame themselves. They had welded on tow bar attachment points as well. Even has license plate dome lights that have been painted over numerous times.

That's the color I really want but family and friends beg me not to. I think it looks awesome.
