1974 CJ5, AMC 258 I6. Stock everything as far as I can tell.
I've got a 74 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I ordered a dist cap and rotor from RockAuto assuming I had a stock setup. The cap I have clips on whereas the one they sent has screws. The rotor they sent is the wrong size too.

Here's what I've got:

Also, which dist upgrades will fit the 74 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ? Seems like the TFI is 76+

can't help you with what you have but your options for aftermarket are tfi, hei, dui, and the stock delco unit. I went with hei on my 75 CJ5 from skip white and its been great. only had it in for 5 months though.

well with an hei the coil is inside the distributor. Its just 1 wire to hook up. Here is the dist. that i bought.
White Performance Detail Description

now be forwarned that you might get a lot of hate from people that these are cheap chinese junk but from all of my homework they are the same as summit's hei and 4wd brand hei. Heck even the bottom end msd's are made in china. It looked to be made of very good quality when i took it apart and inspected it.

Looks like an old prestolite to me . Btw dist. From an hei 250 six nova and a AMC 304 drive gear also works. We've used this setup for years.

Looks like someone upgraded to a 75 electronic setup. Pretty common upgrade. Got rid of the points.

Up until 75, AMC 232 i6 & 258s all had conventional points and condensers. 75 AMC came out with electronic ignition. You should have a extra box with wires going to the distributor. Prestolite I think.

Good eye Tinman and 73CJ, the '75 Prestolite replacement distributor from RockAuto seems to match

Product Detail

I didn't realize there was so much involved with distributors, reading about them is giving me a headache. Hopefully the replacement cap&rotor will do the trick for now before I go replacing the whole thing (I started thinking about replacement in the event this thing couldn't be identified).

Thanks!
