I was curious what everyone else really uses their jeep for. I know there are a lot of hardcore jeepers out there that take their jeeping serious. A lot of "if it's not broken your not trying hard enough". I certainly dont have an issue with that mindset but I was wondering how many of you really do that? Let me just say that I dont. Now dont get me wrong, I drive my jeep and break it from time to time, but I dont do any hardcore rock crawling or bogging. I mostly use my jeep for trail riding and for getting to that amazing remote camping spot, or for going fishing. My idea of a perfect weekend is throwing the dogs and the family in the jeep with the top down and disappearing into the woods. I am certainly not happy when something breaks!

Let the thrashing begin...:o:D

Years ago, I used to beat the daylights out of whatever poor Jeep found It's misfortune to be in my possession. I did unspeakable things to them and broke more parts and pieces than you could imagine, headlights to tail lights, and EVERY part in between. Several years ago, I just grew up, rebuilt my current CJ7 from the ground up, putting in just the right parts to make it able off road, and fun to hit the road in as well. like you, I trail ride, and go camping and fishing in it. My wife and I also love to hop in and go for a cruise to the shore for lunch or dinner, have a cocktail by the water, or take the ferry out to block island for the day or weekend. We love the silly thing, and actually take care of it! It's parked all winter until the weather gets nice enough to take it out. I no longer use the top, so even rain keeps us out of it. But on nice days, I can't think of a more fun or relaxing thing to do than to fire up the Jeep!

My baby.

Thats awesome. You have one heck of a clean jeep. I cant say that my CJ is quite that taken care of but I try.:notworthy:

I'm in the same boat as Coldwater except the years ago rebuilding part. I have beat the hell out of my CJ for years and it has served me well. I too have broken just about everything there is on it. It has been upside down, submerged, raced and rode hard - put up wet.

Now I'm doing a total rebuild and I'm even going to put some paint on it! Before, paint wasn't even an issue because I would just scrape it off! I will still wheel the heck out of it but I'm going to treat it a little better this time. She deserves it!

Thanks! It's a 78. I rebuilt it in 1996, and aside fron a paint chip in the tailgate, it still looks just about perfect!

Words of wisdom...couldnt have said it better.

Used my YJ as a daily driver and beat the :dung: out of it. Its been a few years since I have driven a jeep. My current project will be a little nicer, but I still plan to beat it a little.

i use mine for trails. mudd but not reel deep mudd where you need some to pull you out and just cruising.

I wouldnt mind seeing a little mud soon. Everything here is white and frozen for a few more weeks. Once everything starts melting it will be good old fashion dirty fun.

I used to race mine in the mud bogs that are so plentiful around Seattle, but now I'm setting it up to crawl rocks in OK, where I now reside.
Other than that I drive it whenever I can find a (small) reason.

Oh yea, when I first got it, Seemed every time I took it out I broke things. A driveshaft here, spider gears or U-joints there. I'm getting to the point where I can wheel it and NOT break something every trip now.

I almost did this
last time we were out. I ain't trying any harder! :chug:

I just use my 8 for trail riding mostly. I drive it to run errands alot too, its easier to get in and out of parking lots then my crew cab F250 is;)

Flogged my first 2 jeeps. I really got into jeeps after my time served with the USAF, I was a jet mech. and the maintenance habits established there carried over, I keep it well maintained now, and like Tim Allen, I'm always tweaking it. Argh argh argh...
Even though it's well maintained, i'm not afraid to jump off in a mud hole.
But with the wee one big enough now, I'm building it for a family trail rig/daily driver.

Hey 33x14.50x15 super swamper tsl's, and a 4 inch lift it's still a family rig, right?!?

I use mine as a time machine to take me back to my youth. :D

Wow, yours has the flux capacitor too? I Thought that was only an option on the 78 model!

Nope - came in the 72 model also... I think it was standard on all CJ's! :)
