In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
I have the CJ7s frame flipped upside down so I can repair the threads before I apply the chassis coat.
But I keep looking at these rusty (Snapped off? bolt heads?) near the front of the frame. Somewhat close to where the bumpstop would be. Anyone have an idea what they are and if they need to be kept? Keep in mind I am replacing the axle with a Wagoneer front Dana 44 .
I don't remember taking anything off right there, And they are on both sides of the frame.

Those are the bump stop mounting bolts. Only you can decide if you want them, or not! :D

:dung: , I was gonna say sway bar but I went out and checked. Bump stops it is.

thats kinda what I hoped. That saves me some work trying to get them out, sonce I will fab something else there when the new axles go in.

Thanks!

Glad to help. I have seen an awful lot of those bolts broken off, no Idea why though....

Bump stops don't use nearly that long of bolt and they are farther back in the 'Arch' of the frame above the axles.

Those are Sway Bar Mount bolts.
Clean them up, drop a large nut over them and weld the nut down to them and they should unscrew if you get them while they are still hot.

If that doesn't work, or you don't have access to a welder,
Cut them off flush with the frame,
And grind SMOOTH.

Use a hardened center punch, and center punch them for drilling.
Start with a small pilot hole and use larger drill bits as you go.

Pilot holes allow you to correct for center in case you get off track...

When you get out to the threads, the excess part of the bolt will probably unscrew,
but if it doesn't, use a tap to clean out the threads for the new bolts.

Remember, drivers side has part of the steering box mount bolting in with it, so it's a good idea to restore the drivers side even if you don't intend to run a sway bar in the future.

The title of this thread made me laugh. It is either this or uh oh I got extra parts left over. I hope these aren't important. :D
