This might be a stupid question, but what is the purpose of this on a CJ? Figured I’d mount my CB antenna to it unless it has another use.

thats exactly what it is. i removed mine and use the cages i installed over my tail lights u can see em here. i also have over sized tires.

Or you could do like Shum8 and modify it to hold a bottle opener. That is in my plans for the future.

I removed mine too... prior to paint. I'm just careful with the spare tire carrier. I always wanted to put one of the coca-cola wall mount bottle openers on it somewhere... but I never drink from a bottle anymore it seems.
