what IS this thing?
I'm piggybacking this thread, but if I am doing a new build ('85 CJ7 ) and trying to figure out how/where to mount the shocks and swaybar... what is the best way to do this?

Should I mount both to the ubolt plate (via THIS)?
Or should I do the sway-bar to the ubolt plate and weld mounting points onto the axles for the shocks?

The front lower shock mounts are on the axle housing on the '85 CJ. The rears are on the u-bolt clamp.

Good point. Thanks for the intel. :chug: I am thinking about buying some new Dana 44 's and will have the option to have shock mounts put on the axles. I will probably do that for the front and the rear.

I was reading some of your posts in another thread "Steering Linkage - Dana 44 swap". What are your thoughts on stock Y-link vs. crossover vs. highsteer crossover with a 4.5" spring lift?

Yeah, I did make an edit to my post. The thin wall housing in the model 20 housing probably cannot support a shock mount. The lower rear shock mounts on my '86 are on a Dana 44 and seem to hold up quite well. I have seen a few high steer setups on a CJ Dana 44 and they seem to look pretty good. I have a tie rod and drag link from either a Blazer or Bronco with the tie rod reversed. Getting that sucker out of the way does help when cruising thru the rocks

OEM shock mounting points are good ones. Stay with them.
Drive it some to see if you really need the s'bar.
Took mine off the day I bought mine 32+ years ago, and have never missed it at all.
