I decided on no in dash head unit and went with a basic marine bluetooth receiver and a throw back to the 80's with the revived Blaupunkt brand. Its arguably only a minor step up from the Pyle quality but right now their gear is cheap and so far it performs good for the prices I paid. The most expensive part of this entire setup is the Rockville pods!

I just put the compact 8" sub under my back seat, it was one of the cheapest low profile subs and while I am sure it doesn't hit the mark for real audio aficionados, its all I need. This Bluetooth dongle is the most basic you can get but it works great.

I am contemplating the removal of my bulky and heavy speaker box and power amplifier and going with a utv soundbar. I am looking at the Bazooka G2. There is just enough room right under the dash panel for it. I don’t want anything mounted on the roll bar and don’t care for the fancy led’s. If anyone has gone this route I would like your opinion.

Look what I found! I dug around for the worst tape I could...Nana Mouskouri (I think they were standard issue in Canada in the early 80's) .

The tape played good and didnt eat it.. unfortunately haha!

I could not find the knobs but they may be at the be in a drawer somewhere, still looking. Everything seems to be in good working order.

I have a little Herdio HMS61 which is a bluetooth block that you hook your speakers into and it plays music from your phone. I hooked 4 speakers into it and it really sounds great. I MAY put an old radio in the slot, but this works great and is very unobtrusive. I velcroed it behind my dash and you can't even really see it.

I "was" rocking my original vintage 1980's AMC Jeep factory AM/FM 40 Channel CB stereo head unit.

This was until one day I happened to see these things were selling north of $400-$600 on that big auction site.

***I decided that it would be better if I kept my property so I removed it, bagged it and stuck it on the shelf in the garage for future days. There is a converter for the radio antenna to work on CB & AM/FM attached to the radio itself also on the shelf for future days or car shows.***

No radio in the dash for thieves wandering sticky fingers.......

I have a Kenwood BT unit in the Tuffy console along with CB & Ham that locks up for security in moments.

I ended up biting the bullet and buying a Retrosound unit. It's very universal so there were parts to trim and lots of adjusting to do, but overall it's an interesting radio. Time will tell how good it is as far as it holding signal, etc. I've only driven it around the block once so far before tearing the steering box out. What I don't like about it right away is the width of the back knobs. I set my unit up to fit the radio cutouts in a new dash I just bought, but the bass/treble and the balance/fader knobs are too wide and interfere with the bezel, so I'm not able to use it. You can choose different front knobs, but they only have one style of back knobs. Also, when they arrived, one of the back knobs was cast way too loose and wouldn't stay on the split post. The folks there were real nice and set me replacements right away, but instead of metal they were plastic--otherwise looking identical to the metal ones. I didn't care--they fit way better than the metal ones do.

CJ7 Upgrade for Amp, Horn, H4, and Heated Seats

This is the route I took. USB capable Kenwood KAC-M1824BT 400 watt amplifier. Built some incognito behind the dash rails to mount it on and fitted the control panel into a radio blanking plate. Replaced the original speakers in the dash and listen to my iTunes playlist on the iPhone. Pretty nice setup for me. Not for the those looking to vibrate the next county to its knees;]

The article also details adding a Cooper Bussmann relay box which allows for H4 headlights, heavy duty horn, electric fuel pump, heated seats, etc.

I mounted my ECU the same way you did your amp.

I tried the DOT version Hella’s a while back. The flat front sure looks nicer than traditional domed lamps. The H4 bulb uses the same connector as a sealed beam lamp. They do make higher wattage H4 bulbs. Your ECE version might outperform the DOT. Post up how they perform. I gave up on the nicer looks of a traditional headlamp on the CJ and focused on performance. Got an expensive ECE set of lamps from JW Speaker. They look and perform great with no flicker and lower amp draw than incandescent.

Very unusual I can chime in on a thread of this nature but my newest project actually has a stereo. Never had on in any Cj Ive owned. Its a pretty decent JVC unit. This thread has helped me figure out how to flesh out the rest of it.

here is the link where you can see it on amazon. It came with speakers, they are decent. I will also take a picture of it where I pulled it from behind my jeep. My connections aren't as clean as they could be as I added an extra set of speakers, but they are working great.
