1984 CJ-7 (just bought it, so I have to do some work and see what it has in it.. other than 4.2L Auto.. 4" lift, 33" tires... my '75 had a 304 2" Burbank supspension, warn winch, full cage, all the goodies, the '79 had a 401 turbo charged hi-po with t98 or 18, which ever one had the granny low first gear (never can remember which).. had all the items needed to 4wheel, none of the show and go poopie.. I don't believe "chrome will get you home"! I'm also not one to go out to see if I can tear up my jeep, I go where I must, usually with a group that I hung with.. Used to be part owner in Diablo Off Road Center in Concord California.. Jack Essex owned Diablo 4WD, George Clause was Mr. Base CAmp, and mine was "Sounds Etc" all under one big roof "the Diablo Off Road Center"..
I measured my '84 CJ7 bolt pattern, came up with 5 5 1/4, seems to me every jeep I've owned (which were older) were 5 5 1/2 ? had a friend measure, came up with the same 5 5 1/4 what gives? is there anyway the axles got swapped for some weird abnormal pattern? or am I using a Chinese measuring tape? I need to put some stock 14 or 15" wheels with the smallest tires I can find, on my jeep in order to get it into the enclosed trailer to haul north.. I'm 6" too tall with my 33's on 15's.. so, even thought about putting down another sheet of plywood and winching the jeep on with just bare wheels.. and cross strapping ..? HELP..

I personally have never heard of 5 on 5 1/4 but thats just in my personal experiences. I dont guess you purchased the rims that are on there now, but if you know what brand and style they are you could do a little homework and see what bolt patterns they are sold in in your rim size and diameter to see if there is even a 5x5 1/4 bp offered? I would think that it has to be 5x5.5. Do the axles appear to be cj widetrack width? There cant be too many axles out there that would be cj widetrack width and would have 5x5 1/4 bp.

How are you measuring? Make sure you are getting a good line between them. You're only talking a 1/4" if you are not going center to center it will be off just slightly.

Excuse the crappy drawing on my IPhone but you get the idea.

I bought a CJ7 spare tire carrier with wheel. Wanted to sell the wheel but double checked the bolt pattern--5 on 5-1/4! Couldn't be! So I measured the studs on a CJ5 axle--5-1/4". According to Car Rims - Find Vehicles to Fit Your Rims | My Bolt Pattern NO ONE has used 5 x 5-1/4. I think you and I need new tape measures.

BTW, Suzuki Sidekicks and Geo/Chev Trackers use the same bolt pattern with the huge Jeep center hole.
