Looking for new wheels for my CJ. Strongly considering going bigger, 17 or 18”. Better handling on road and better tire choices. Also clears rear disks. Thoughts or suggestions?

I think they look goofier than a square-eyed dog on a CJ, but it's your gig man. I like the old school look.

How big of a tire are you running? I like the 35” tire on 15” rims and my current setup 37”s on 17”s.

17” tires are easier to find and cheaper than the average 18”.

The wheel style is what makes the difference between goofy and proper, in my opinion. Not so much the wheel diameter. Stay away from chrome, stick with natural aluminum finishes or black painted steel.

Absolutely more tire choices...not sure they’re better. You’ll lose sidewall with bigger rims. Helps handling on street, hurts off-road.

Not finding any with a natural aluminum finish. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong manufacturers. Suggestions on 17x9-10”

Dude, there ain’t hardly anything out there. It’s a shame. Everything is geared towards modern bolt patterns and offsets. Good luck.

By the way, I am currently running a set of now extinct 9” wide by 15” diameter Centerline forged aluminum wheels from the early 80’s in pristine condition and have discs on all four corners. No clearance issues.

With my recent front brake upgrade, I did need a mild .250” spacer to clear the wider (not taller) 4 piston caliper, but the required inside diameter for the upgrade was within range.
