'84 CJ7 258 4spd. Dana 300. Fiberglass tub. In storage for 20 YEARS... Got 'er running in six hours... Just sold my soul to the guy at the auto parts store,
2013 Cherokee... Bone stock....
The title says it all....

Brought home (well, to my dads garage anyway....) an '84 CJ7 . The PO... well... Let's just say he was a hack. The front diff breather has come out of the housing and the diff was full of stuff resembling pig snot. Both driveshafts... Ever so slightly resemble bananas. The brake lines look like a blade of grass will break them, the fuel tank leaked 4 gal of fuel in a half mile hill climb. There is a fiberglass tub on it, and the roll bar is screwed into the tub only. There is no parking brake. At some point the foot dimmer switch quit, so the PO wired it to two switches on the dash so he could activate both high and low beams at the same time... I can't believe all the hacks, things bodged together, I wanna scream at him! This guy was a flamin' idiot!!! (Leans over, looks in mirror...) oh yeah, he's one of those long-haired-freaky-people from the song "signs" too....

You probably guessed.... I'm the idiot PO.

I've had the old girl in storage since about '93. Since I've gotten her out, I have redone upper half of carb, and she runs great now. If you rev the motor, (blurb the throttle) it's fine on the acceleration side, but smokes while decelerating. (She has less than 6 miles on her since I got her running so I'm not panicking yet.) power steering box leaks, rear pinion seal leaks, aforementioned fuel tank leak... New fuel tank and pinion seal is at local auto parts store right this minute, waiting to be picked up. Brake line fitting assortment, ordered. Choke does not work. Windshield rotted out. Ball joints need replacing. Frame needs painting... Needs a paint job...

The great news... I've got a lift, so fuel tank, driveshafts etc... Are easy. I'm very handy. Worked for a year at a high end auto resto place helping out friends of the family.... And the really great news is... I GOT MY JEEP BACK!!! :chug:

Beware... Lots of questions to come.... Lol

This should be fun to follow I also have a '84 that I bought as a basket case. Probably not as bad just lots of rust in tub and it had a engine fire that the PO some what tried to fix.:popcorn:

Have you gotten a donor Jeep mtn? Might be a way to go if you can afford such.
