So the motor that i picked up back in December that was "rebuilt" is worn out. Pulled the head off it today and man can you say i wasnt very happy! Anyway where have you guys picked up rebuild kits for your AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ?

i think quadratec has some...here at my dealer we've used jasper for some 4.0 long blocks and been very happy...don't know if they have AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l but may be worth checking...warranty coverage also w/jasper:)

I but ALL my engine stuff from Summit racing! they sell about anything you will need and you will be very happy with the service!

Why do you say the engine is worn out? The picture is a bit dark but what are you seeing that made you unhappy?
If I were rebuilding mine, I'd probably go to napa for a kit. I just got the engine gasket kit(FelPro) and a single piston(Sealed Power) from them, but I was able to look it up online first, make my choice, then give them the part number. As opposed to them looking me up something.
NAPA has always been quality stuff, whether it was Timken, National, Belden, etc. but I was disappointed when I got my timing chain set which was an NTP(napa timing parts) product. The cam sprocket was in a sealed bag marked Made in Taiwan!

I was kind of mad so i didnt explain myself. You can grab the top of the pistons and move them around in the cylinders. Also the dirty part where the piston stops has a ridge where you can see that the cylinder use to be that size. There was so much carbon build up that there is no way this motor has been rebuilt. maybe 200k miles about

Sent my motor off last week to the machine shop to have new cam bearings installed, have the crank turned, new pistons, bearings, have it bored 30 thous, deck the block, head bolt holes machined out to accept 1/2 bolts, new gasket set.

That'll be the ticket. Any idea what that's gonna run ya?

O forgot to add a better timing gear set, a high volume oil pump also All this is all going to run me $1200

So all together the 4.0 head $100 exhaust manifold $75 Clifford cam $400 machine work ect $1200 all together $1775

Thanks but I'm going with premium parts in this motor. (down the road want to run a super charger but shhhh no one can know that :D )

Oh big money!!! Let me know what u come up with on the school I was thinking about a turbo

I've thought of a turbo also but I think I might build a blow through using a Paxton super charger. This is going to be a few years from now.
