1978 CJ-7 304 / TH 400 / Quadratrac 32 in Mud Terrains
Am I doomed to pay $900 to $1000 for (4) 33 x 12. x 15 Baja MTZs or a comparable tire from Goodyear or B.F. Goodrich? For me thats the largest lump sum for any of my upgrades for the CJ7 .

Where did you get your last set of tires? What did you pay? Better to buy on line or check locally? Is there a tire place out there thats beating everyone elses prices that you know of ? Id love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks
Pete

I have five sets of these tires on different vehicles I own, and have never had any problems, period.

I've always gotten a good deal at ntw but it looks like the mtz will be $1000 now. Tires have really gone up in the last year or two.:(
If you watch their site you can get free shipping sometimes.:)
Mickey Thompson Tires MTZ Radial
By the way I've been happy with my mtz's, although they are not the best in heavy mud, but than I'm not a mudder.

I had looked into these awhile back. Seems you cant get them in a 33 in for a 15 inch wheel.

Thats the tire I really wanted to try out. All the reviews Ive heard about them are good. I think theyd be great for me. Im not a mudder either. :D Thats the last place I bought a new set of tires. Theres a NTW about 30 minutes away from here. Probably be the first place I'll call for quotes.

That is true. I bought 16s for the Jeep and put 285/75r16s Gaurd Dogs on. They are a smigin over 32inches tall.

I've had mine for 6 years, they do well in the terrain I run and are road friendly. They do make noise on the road but no worse than anyother mud tire. they seem to have good sidewalls as I've seen 3 of the new BFG's have cut sidewalls running the same trails I went down. I usually run 8-10 lb's on the trails with no beadlocks and haven't had any problems with them. I've even bent 2 wheels with no tire damage.
They are my road tires now that I got the claws with the beadlocks.

as priceg said about the treadwrights the MTZ's are only about 32" also.

One cool thing about the treadwrights,is, you can get any of their tires with walnut shells impregnated.

 your going to have to explain that one to me, what the purpose of the walnut shells?

They say as the shells become exposed, they create sharp edges for grip.

I would look a Goodyear mt/r. When I was shopping for tires I printed out the price for tires plus shipping on 4wd.com and got my duratracs for $20 less buy showing the salesman the cheaper price on 4wd.com. He matched the price. And mounted and balanced them for free. I would look on line and see what you come up with. Then show the price to a locale tire salesman.

anytime I look at on line tire prices I am impressed right up until I remember how much it costs to ship tires. I can get a much better deal at Discount tire with mount and balance and lifetime road hazard than I can from anybody on line.

My next set are going to be BFG KM2s

I figure I' going to have these for a very long time and I want to be sure they are just what I want rather than something that was a good deal.

And just for the record, Pete, you are dead on right. Damn tires are expensive!!

IO it might just be a fluke but I've seen 3 KM2's have sidewall's cut when noone else had problems. just something to think about.

Sorry for the hijack Pete.

Good to know as that was the #2 tire on my list. I loved the old style.

I bought tires from this site last year when they had a sale on BFGs. I think they were $155/tire, but shipping was about $100.
Onlinetires.com - TIRES Search Results

Also, another online site is treadepot where you can get 4 BFG T/A KOs for about $800 with shipping. They have a $50 rebate right now.

Wal-Mart mounted and balanced my tires for $10/tire. I'm sure most tire places would do this.

By the way, the BFGs and COOPERs listed are American made. You're able to purchase additional tire protection plans from each site.

I still havent had any luck. If anyone sees a rebate or sale on Mickey Thompson tires please let me know. Pm, post here , email , carrier pigeon... :)

Way to kill my buzz Dog!!:D

Now I am looking at the Super swamper LTB. The biggest reason the KM2 would be chosen is buying them from dicsount tire. I like the idea of being able to get some one by the throat if something goes wrong. :pissed:

The Swampers would come from 4 wheel drive hardware or Quadratec and a voice on the phone is just not quite the same.

I just bought a set of MTRs in 33x12.5x15 for 700 before tax mounted and balanced. Goodyear is offering 160 bucks off till the end of may on them. Couldn't pass up the deal.
