cant make my mind up which bumper i like. whats your thoughts?

Tube bumpers are old school/old style. While they look good on certain rigs, I like the second one better on that rig(s).
Its not hard to build a nice rectangular tube bumper that looks good, and those are my preference.

I like the second one (non-tube) better.
Here's one I made for my yj.

thinking i might put the stock one back on. still would like to hear what everyone has to say.

I like the look of the tube bumper, in this case. Mainly because it does not cover as much of the front tire. I like having the front tires open.

think about this.....which is easier to add to.. if you want (winch..etc)

thats one reason i like the tube one. but i could always cut the stock one shorter.

I usually like the old school look on cj's, BUT I was never a fan of the double tube look. I'd go with #2, or better yet go with rectangle tube as others have suggested.

anyone have any pics of the rectangle tube ones?

this is the one I built when I got my CJ...

2"x4" x 3/16" wall. Survived can opening 2 quarter panels of "I'll turn in front of that Jeep" drivers. 2 deer, 1 light pole and numerous trees.

Bonus - stick your Handyman jack in the end and it will resist falling.

If 1 round tube looks bad, why would 2 look better?

that was the other thing i was thinking. i have no where to put my highlift jack. if i put the second one on i might be able to weld brackets to mount the jack.

I personally like the stock(ish) bumper better. When I built my which mount, I modified the stock bumper with some 1/4" plate welded behind and shortened each side. Looks good, great clearance, and tougher then hell.

This thing has survived 3 deer at over 50mph and enough rocks to build a mountain. :D

how much did you shorten it and do you have any pics?

I shortened it all the way to the frame horns.
It's not really as cosmetic as much as functional. Looking at it now, it's not much of anything except a good place to mount my winch and clevices :D

Personally i like the non tube bumper. IMO the double tube does not compliment the design of the cj. Here are a just a few of the bumpers i have had. first was very useful because i could run into anything and not worry about it, it was made from a big piece of steel it was great for pushing around in the woods! the second was just for a bumper not much use i didnt like it. the third is for clearance, wench plate, shackles, and half stinger and i love it. so i guess it depends on what your gonna use it for.

i think the stock one is going back on. i might cut it shorter cause i like it open in front of the wheels. thanks guys. fell free to still post pics of yours. :chug:

now both of mine are very stout, i rearended a car and pancaked the trunk and didnt even scratch the bumper, and the rear one is just freshly built but its 1/4" thick tubing so it should be strong.
