Needing a new fuel sender/sensor since finding out the current one isn't working properly to a new gas gauge(keeps showing a constant full tank)

So any ideas on which one is best, and also how do I know which tank I have on my 79 CJ5 ? Saw on jeep4x4world that there's a 15 and a 20 something gallon tank.

And finally is it possible to make the swap without dropping the tank? Jeep appears to have a body lift so I can see it but looks to be pretty tight. Thanks!

Tell us more about the new gauge. there are about 10 different resistance ratios for aftermarket gauges and there is a good possibility the one you have does not match the jeep sending unit.

you are going to love dropping the tank, something everybody should have to do once. Careful with the hoses and you may be able to reuse them. I would suggest you at least locate some new ones before dropping the tank.:D

If you don't want to drop the tank, you can cut a hole in the floor and put an axcess door there for the future. I don't know why amc didn't do that. I have one in mine for that reason. So much easier.;)

can we see pictures of yours??

Any one have a list of the potential / correct resistance values?

Years ago I put an IronMan 21 gallon tank in my '81 CJ, and it never has read quite right since then. I recently replaced the sender with a 20-gallon one, but it still reads full a long time, and shows empty too soon.

Better than the opposite I suppose.

73 empty 10 full
For anyone having problems with the plastic float, I hear that ford has a brass one that fits. part # COAZ-9202-B.
I need to do this but haven't yet.
