Hi there,
New to this group.
Just got a new-to-me 1985 CJ7 . 3rd Jeep but it has been 20 yrs since the last one and back then they were new and straight.
I want to put a soft top on. With what's on now, I consider that I have nothing and want to start from scratch and consider every option.
I need a top because I have kids (3) and I don't want to impose on them what I would consider as normal jeep fun when it starts raining or getting cold.
I have full hard doors but I don't care about them, too heavy and takes too much place to store when you take them off.
What are the best choices of soft top? Pros and cons of your setup?
The Jeep is white. Any colour suggestions? I'm tempted by spice but it seems odd.
Thanks
Jean

Best Top Super Top, no holes to drill in the sides.
Black, Tan or Black Denim.

For the CJ, I believe your only two options come from Bestop, the Supertop and Tigertop. I have the Tigertop and would not recommend it.

Supertop. I love it. And I'll take your doors if ya don't want them!!!

I had a tiger top on my scrambler and do not recommend it. I would go with something with a rail system rather than snaps.

The Super top is as good as it gets, not saying much. don't like a lot of things about design. the rails are better than snaps and I truly despise the door strikes.

see if you can find a used one or even a frame. those things are expensive and you can just buy the canvas if you have the frame.

And BesTop has had problems recently with quality control. As mentioned, try to find an older used one.

I would very much like to find an OEM. threw the original away just because I had no place to keep it. every time I think about that the dumb4$$ light comes on.

It was white, I can't understand why best top does not make a white one, not a big fan of tan. All the original needed for it to be perfect would be two piece doors.

Find an old Whitco. Is BD making a white top for a CJ? Pricey, but might have what you want.

they make nothing for a CJ much less a CJ5 .

i have had both the tiger top in black (CJ2a ) and just bought the super top in tan (CJ5 ), the tiger top is little better than garbage, don't really like the black either to hot in the sun. the super top is great really like the rails, the ability to unzip and remove the sides and back and the tan stays a lot cooler. remember when you buy one, you need to be careful not to fold the windows as it can leave a permanent crease, also don't use paper towels on the windows and you should use the special bestop cleaners.
