whistle noise

Hmmm...

Maybe The air is being slightly restricted going into the carb (Dirty airfilter?)

Maybe a loose or cracked vac line?

Or a bad seal on the carb itself?

All just thinking out load thoughts I'd start with if it were me...

:D

^^^what he said^^^
sounds like some sort of vac. leak.

i have taken alot of the vacuum lines of the jeep could this just be something i have to live with or could there be a simple fix. i does not do it all the time

What do you have for an air cleaner set-up? I have the K&N cold air kit with the cone filter on my XJ and at a certain RPM it whistles as it's sucking in air, could be you have something like that going on...

Or, it could be a vacuum leak :)

Whistling started on mine during the drive home from buying it a few weeks ago. Found it to be the carburetor mounting gasket (http://www.race-mart.com/Fel-Pro-FEL-60304.html).

The way I found it:

Spray starter fluid near the carburetor, if the engine revs, you're sucking in air (and starter fluid), I did this from different sides until the rev was much more noticeable than the others and honed in on the spot on the gasket that is leaking. It was on the engine-side bolt holding on the carb, last person probably couldn't get to it to tighten it down properly. Will tighten down or replace when I get a chance.

Mine will do it if I have the idle set at just the right spot.

Same as you though, not always.

Tightening down the carb manifold did the trick, you need a half length wrench to get in there since the engine is in the way which is why the PO probably didnt do it right!
