Anybody ever seen one like this before? Appears the steering wheel is in the center of the cab, removable hardtop and tailgate stamped with JEEP. Listed as a DJ5 but never seen one like this before.

Odd
That steering wheel doesn't swing over to the passenger side does it?
Are there (were there) gas and brake over there?
The steering gearbox can't be in the middle of the engine compartment. There must be gears or chain drive between the steering column and gearbox. They went out of their way to build it like that but I don't understand why unless their is gas and brake over there too.

Postal vehicles like to have the steering wheel on the right for deliveries.

On a slightly different topic, when I was in drivers ed the car had a brake pedal for the passenger (teacher).

first dj I saw with the removal top and CJ7 style door opennings. Around here we have some mail carrier that sit on the right hand side and steer and operate pedals with their left foot.
Kinda cool though.

It looks like a modified DJ to me. If you look at the inside picture where the top bolts down it’s not OEM plus the top doesn’t fit right at the back. I can’t speak to the steering wheel moved toward center but I do know that it is typical for people who are contract mail delivery people to sit in the passenger side of their vehicle (theirs, not one bought by the Post Office) then drive with their leg over the center tunnel to brake and gas. Maybe this one was built that way, don’t know but it looks like an OEM sticker to the left of the steering wheel.

The top doesn't belong and the tailgate doesn't either. The tailgate looks like a modified J-truck tailgate including the release handle. Also, notice how the tailgate sits flush on the right side but sticks out on the left side where the hinge is. The tail lights were added, you can see the outline of the original lights on the right rear.

I don't even think the doors belong. It's a DJ5 modified with CJ7 doors. They bump right into the rear fenders.

Someone used a bunch of random jeep parts to build that thing.

here's the deal, my 15 yr old daughter just bought this DJ. Complete custom job by someone who took a lot of time. Converted to left hand drive, cj windshield that folds down, full cj doors with body work to fit, cj top that has been cut and shortened, and now she thinks dad can make it look "CUTE" wish me luck...

Good luck!

Sincerely.

I see a barbie Jeep in the making :D

Here is where I need to be a Debbie Downer. I assume you love your daughter as much as I do mine and would rather die yourself than loose her….. SELL THE JEEP NOW. DO NOT LET HER DRIVE IT. PERIOD!!!

This is the voice of experience. CJs/DJs have a very narrow frame at the front and the net result is that a CJ isa very tippy in a hard turn and should not be driven by an inexperienced driver. I gave my teenage daughter a 1980 CJ to use and showed her how to drive it to stay on all fours but the first dog that ran into the road was all it took for the jeep to do a tuck and roll. Fortunately she lived.
