my old windshield wiper switch wasn't working properly and was blowing fuses then stopped working. the local parts store found me a universal switch but i can't figure out how to wire it. my wiper motor has 3 wires coming from it (red green and black) and there are a power and ground wire also going to the switch. here are pictures of the new and old switches. thanks for any help. i have tried multiple configurations and just keep blowing fuses

Wrong switch, to much difference, #2 connects to wiper?, Only 1 B need 1 in & 1 out.
Get the right switch.

thanks for the reply. does anybody have a part number for the right one? don't want to order it online unless i have to. thanks

J812 6111 Control, Windshield Wiper 1974-1978 connector used for wiper wires from motor to switch, stationary windshield.

thanks i will go down and get one as soon as the jeep runs good enough to get me there and back.

That appears to be the right part #, can you wire direct to the motor to check its operation? BTW, the motor does have to be grounded to its housing.

the three wires on the motor are park, high and low. the switch should have a power from the accessory circuit to one of the five terminals on the switch. From there it is park is hot when the switch is off and the first click clockwise is low, the second click will make high and if you push the knob the washer pump is energized. To find which is which is just a question of poking it with an ohm meter until you have it mapped out.:D

ok thanks i have been to busy this weekend to even set down for more then 10 seconds should be able to try the ohm meter tomorrow

how do i tell which wire is which coming from the motor?

The wires.

ok i got the switch woking properly according to the diagram and it still won't work so i replaced the motor/ wire and it still isn't working if remove the motor and mess with it when i install it it will run to for a half turn then stop and only click when i turn the switch. any ideas. its supposed to rain monday and i have to fix and put the top on tomorrow.

So you hot wired it and it works then clicks sounds like bad motor.

i routed the wires correctly throughou the new switch.
