Do all older CJ5 's have poor windshield wipers?

Even with new wiper blades they don't clean off the windshield very well.

Do the springs in the wiper arms loose tension over they years, mine is a 1980 and I have put new blades on it and just setting there running the wipers in a sprinkle they don't do very well and moving I might as well wipe the windshield with rain X

Mine in the CJ7 suck too, Rain X works! plan to do mine again this spring.

The springs do lose tension over time. I don't know of a source for new springs. You could try adjusting the spring. There are a couple of holes in the arm just above where the spring attaches (if it's never been adjusted before) and you can try moving the spring to attach at the next hole up to tighten it some. If that doesn't work, some people have tried generic steel springs from the hardware store as replacements, but they rust in short order. You need stainless. Dorman makes a replacement arm (with new spring in it) part # 42883 in plain or brushed appearance. Kentrol part # 50544 are also available in black (way too pricey IMO).

I replaced mine with ones with higher spring tension but they still stink because CJ's has flat windshields.. :chug:
how did you find ones with stronger springs

I have looked for reviews on both of these but they are far and few between "LOL"

A few review sources for the Dorman offering:

Amazon review of Dorman
Summit Racing review of Dorman

Definitely sparse on the Kentrol reviews. With their price, I can see why less people purchase - and therefore review them.

Omix also offers a replacement arm (part # 19710.02) for a good price and a 4.5 star rating with over 100 reviews: Amazon link
