Hey guys. I am in the process of doing a frame off on my 74 CJ5 . I thought I could save the harness but after a closer look I think ill be time and money ahead to just get a new harness. I am a GM factory tech that specializes in electrical so the difficulty isn't that much of a concern, however the easier the better. My question is does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket harnesses? What brand is the most cost effective and what brand would you recommend? I found some on ebay for around two hundred but have my doubts being that cheap. Also, has anyone found any shortcomings (wires that are not there or anything like that). I can always add things later but need the basics. Your input and wisdom is greatly appreciated.

When I decided to replace mine, I chocked at $200. That will buy all the connectors and wire for a fraction. So I bought the replacement connectors and terminals from

Waytek Inc, Home page to buy fuses, circuit breakers, cable ties, wire and other electrical supplies By Waytek Inc.

They had everything I needed and added a fuse block from a 75 CJ. Put lights, computer and master disconnect on relays. Mine had so many changes that I put only the circuits in that I needed. Ended up real clean under the hood and dash.

To finish it, I drew a schematic on CAD so I could remember exactly what I had done for trouble shooting in the future.

I'm in the same boat as Blaylock sans the automotive electrical experience. I'm looking at the EZ wiring harness but am also interested in making my own as you did, 73. I enjoy a good sufferfest for some reason.

73, could you post your wiring diagram and list of everything you purchased from Waytek?

What you're getting with a wiring kit from most is just a fuse block with wires connected at one end.

I also so added a extra 4 fuse block to run the FI computer, 100watt high beam head lights (one fuse each) and winch control.

I have to pull up the wiring diagram off a external hard drive. I'll try for Monday.

73CJ, any luck finding the wiring diagram you used? I'm using the fuse block from a '91 Honda and have all the connectors. I just need the actual wires and I'm off.

I just finished redoing a 69 CJ5 and i used the E-Z WIRING 12 circuit kit with switches. The kit is great. A few minor issues but nothing anybody can't handle. great kit for 1/2 the price as painless

Has any of you guys used the painless harness? They are expensive but the few things I have bought from them have been great quality

is your harness and fuse box waterproof? i would be really interested in one of those if so.

The fuse box is WP, you have to make your connections WP... I bought the 20 circuit system.
