Hello all,

I have finally got to dig into my 86 CJ7 (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 4 speed)a bit and of course the wiring is a mess, everything works just looks sloppy. What i want to do is have it run bare bones basic eventually i will add trail lights and a winch but i dont want any computers or anything like that, and i think the previous owner had the same thoughts. I disconnected the computer last night and it fired right up and ran as normal as it runs right now. my question is is how much and what wires can i strip out of her. I plan on making my own wire harness down the road and add dedicated grounds for each circuit. I believe it has the nutter bypass and the team rush upgrade already completed. Also can anybody guide me towards some wiring diagrams for this jeep.

thanks in advance for any help

Haynes and Chilton have pretty good diagrams , a bit small, you may need a mag lens to read everything. The factory service manual is a bit easier to read and Auto zone has a pretty good selection of diagrams on line. One of my favorites is the 11X17 laminated diagrams you can find on E-bay, larger , clearer, and color coded.

Jeep wiring is real basic
You can design a basic loom real easy
and yes, Chiltons and Haynes are where you should look first
